ANDOVER firefighters tackled a blaze through the night as a lorry carrying straw went up in flames.
Emergency services were called to the scene on The Packway in Larkhill yesterday evening (August 6) to reports that a fire had taken hold of the vehicle.
It is understood the driver managed to escape the cab before the flames took hold.
Crews from Salisbury, Tisbury, Ludgershall and Fordingbridge joined the town firefighters to put out the 44 bales of hay that had caught alight.
Water carriers from Wilton and MOD Boscombe Down also attended the scene.
The fire also spread to nearby fields that were dry from the hot weather.
The road remains closed today (August 7) between the B3086 and Bingham Road to allow crews to continue to work on the fire as it is still smouldering and is in need of further dampening down.
