LEWIS Scott, from East Yorkshire, selected an appropriate beginning for the Music at HeART June concert at the White Hart Hotel in Andover with the song Another Opening, Another Show, from Cole Porter’s Kiss Me Kate musical, followed by Eve of the War and Forever Autumn from Jeff Wayne’s musical, War of the Worlds.
Send in the Clowns, from A Little Night Music, a song popularised by Judy Collins, was quite unique in that it was played with the sound of bagpipes, whilst a further deviation introduced Dizzy Gillespie’s jazz number, A Night in Tunisia. Lewis clearly enjoyed performing a few relatively unknown tunes, examples of which were King Herod’s Song from Jesus Christ Superstar, Louise and Thanks for the Melody, a Temperance Seven recording.
Midnight, the Stars and You preceded a Latin American medley consisting of Quando Quando, Brazil and Tico Tico and a Big Band number Take the A Train (Duke Ellington’s signature tune), whilst the first half ended with the John Williams Theme from ET.

The entertainment resumed after the break with a popular Second World War song, Wish Me Luck As You Wave Me Goodbye, and Sally (a Gracie Fields hit) before memories of Joe Longthorne were revived with If I Never Sing Another Song. The variation continued with a couple of Nat King Cole hits, namely Stardust and When I Fall In Love, followed by Elton John’s I’m Still Standing.
Bring Him Home (from Les Misérables) and Xanadu (Olivia Newton-John) preceded a selection of music from West Side Story – such memorable songs as Maria, One Hand One Heart, Somewhere and Tonight – to conclude the programme, apart from the inevitable encore, for which Lewis selected Barry Manilow’s Copacabana.
