A CHILBOLTON man is gearing up to do a 24-hour fundraising event as part of his 25by25 charity challenge.
Josh Munn, 24, will be gardening within the Chilbolton and Wherwell area for 24 consecutive hours on Friday, April 8, starting at 6am.
Josh started raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support after his father, Nigel, died of cancer just over three years ago.
Ever since then Josh has worked very hard to raise awareness that cancer can affect anyone.
He said: “Cancer is something that doesn’t just happen to old people, the young get it too.”
He came up with the notion after hearing of people taking on challenges such as visiting 30 countries by the time they turn 30.
However, Josh decided to put a different twist on the idea.
He came up with his ‘25by25 challenge’, where he aims to raise £25,000 for Macmillan by the time he turns 25 years old this December.
So far he has raised just under £16,000.
This particular event is also a part of Josh’s challenge of completing 31 fundraisers in 31 days for the cancer charity.
He hopes that the gardening fundraiser, plus the 30 other events, will bring the total up to just below £20,000.
Last summer Josh had a sell-out pop-up restaurant that ran for two nights, which raised around £1,200.
Although he now lives and works in London, Josh was born and brought up in Chilbolton.
On his mum’s thoughts on his ‘25by25 challenge’, Josh said: “She’s been really supportive throughout the whole process.”
