MYSTERY surrounds the death of a driving instructor found dead at his Hampshire home.
The investigation the death of Neil Macon has been ruled as “unexplained”.
The 45-year-old was discovered by his cousin Emma Deighton slumped next to his bed, an inquest heard.
Ms Deighton, who shared a house with Mr Macon in Lavington Gardens, North Baddesley, told Winchester Coroner’s Court she had returned home from work to find the lights off and the bin still out.
“It was unusual,” she said.
“Neil would always bring the bin back in and it was still out when I returned home.
“When I got in I saw his bedroom windows were still shut.
“I also thought this was strange because he liked having them open.”
Ms Deighton told the court she then decided to go upstairs to check on her cousin.
She added: “When I went upstairs his bedroom door was wide open and he was slumped next to the window.
“I called out ‘Cuz, cuz’ to try to wake him. But, when I went over to him he was not moving.”
An ambulance was called, but the 45-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
Pathologist Dr Adnan Al-Badri told the court that he concluded a medical cause of death to be a cardiac aneurysm – which a number of relatives in Mr Macon’s family suffer from.
Senior coroner Grahame Short said he could not come to a conclusion.
“I cannot, even on the balance of evidence, come to a conclusion based on this case,” he told the court.
“It is not safe for me to say that it was due to a purely medical reason.”
The coroner recorded a verdict of death due to an unexplained reason.
