AN ANDOVER-BASED production manager has raised more than £1,000 after taking part in a series of fundraising challenges for charity.

Throughout the last few months Graham Hood, an employee of Stannah Lifts Ltd, has completed a Tough Mudder Challenge, the Great South Run and the London Royal Parks Half Marathon, raising money for a number of good causes.

Graham completed the 13.1-mile London route, which takes in Hyde Park, The Green Park, St James's Park and Kensington Gardens, in two hours and 19 minutes alongside his girlfriend while fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support, a charity close to his heart.

He said: “The route included lots of lovely scenery which kept me entertained and the crowds were amazing too; lots of cheering, clapping and people shouting my name as it was on the front of my shirt.”

This followed his fourth Tough Mudder competition in September, also for Macmillan who provided care to Graham’s uncle who suffered from cancer a few years ago and passed away in 2011.

With the help of Stannah's 150 per cent fund-match of sponsorship money, to mark their 150th anniversary, the overall total raised for Macmillan was £712.50.

Graham and his girlfriend also ran the Great South Run in Portsmouth in October for the The Rainbow Centre, who inspire and support children with Cerebral Palsy and adults with MS, Parkinson’s, Cerebral Palsy and those who have suffered a stroke or head injury.

Graham completed the 10-mile course in one hour and 35 minutes, raising £250 including the 150 fund-match from Stannah.

He also joined in Stannah's 150km cycle ride earlier this year, meeting other cyclists at Basingstoke for the final 70km of the route and helping to raise the £13,000 total for Crohn’s and Colitis UK.

Reflecting on the challenges, Graham said: “It’s been a pleasure to take part in four brilliant events alongside fantastic team mates while raising money for the three charities.

"Many thanks to those who have sponsored me and a special thanks to Stannah for their amazing generosity with their 150 per cent fund matching contribution. It’s great to think that the funds raised will be put to good use and have a positive impact on those who need it the most.”
