UPPER Clatford Women’s Institute (WI) celebrated 100 years of existence this month with members saying “here’s to 100 more”.
The group, which was formed on 17 February 1918, put together a special day complete with afternoon tea, an evening dinner, an “amusing” speaker and displays showing the history of the WI in the area.
The event, staged at Upper Clatford Village Hall hosted 30 members and 40 ladies from other WI groups and villagers.
This was ahead of the evening meal which had guests such as the mayor and mayoress of Test Valley join the party, where there was a raffle and musical entertainment from Senior Moments.
Upper Clatford WI president Liz Male said: “Our group have spent the past few months planning this very special day. Everyone enjoyed themselves, especially looking at the old photographs and eating delicious soup.
“We had a very amusing speaker, Patricia Godwin, who brought along a selection of ladies clothing and accessories covering the decades and we were invited to have a rummage on the rails and try a few things on.
“Continual fundraising throughout 2017, meant that we were able to put on this special occasion for our members and all in all, it was pronounced a thoroughly excellent and enjoyable day and evening.
“Here’s to another 100 years of WI in Upper Clatford.”
