A NEW radio station has launched onto Andover’s airwaves.
Andover Radio officially launched on 95.9FM last Sunday with Chris Britton from The Troggs speaking the first words.
The guitarist said: “Lots of great things happen in Andover and this is one of them,” before introducing the song Love Is All Around.
Andover Radio is part of the not-for-profit Love Andover organisation.
David Harber, managing director said, “We’re giving Andover it’s love back.
“Twenty-four hours a day, we will show some of the town’s naysayers that there’s a lot of really great stuff happening around them”.
On the station’s line-up, Councillor Iris Andersen, will host Granthems, which will be a three hour Friday evening programme of modern dance anthems, hosted by the grandmother.
The self proclaimed ‘leader of the free bus pass posse’ said: “Admittedly this is less hip-hop, more hip replacement, but representing A-town on the wireless is my new bling.”
The station’s on-air lineup also includes radio personality Steve Randall who hosts the weekday breakfast show.
Andover Radio was awarded a licence to broadcast from the government broadcast licensing authority Ofcom, the Office of Communications, in 2016.
