MUSIC enthusiasts will be able to browse to their heart’s content at a record store opening tomorrow.
The Record Box, in George Yard, holds a host of vinyls and collectables and opened its doors to the public for the first time on Saturday.
Phil, who was inspired to open the store, said: “I’ve been doing it for years, about 35 years, collecting everything and anything. Captain Scarlet stuff mainly, that’s my main thing. I do collect records as well, my main genre is punk.
“This is my own personal collection and obviously stuff I’ve bought over the years and duplicates and stuff like that.”
To start with the store will be opening on Saturdays only, from 10am to 5pm.
Phil believes there is a big market for vinyl, as sales have increased in recent years.
He added: “Andover needs something like this.
“I think there’s a market for it, a big market for it.
“You’ve got so much you can get hold of with a vinyl, something physical.
“The sound quality is so much better, it’s how it’s supposed to be recorded, that’s the nice thing about it.”
Among the store’s alphabetised record collection are a few hidden gems waiting for serious collectors to discover.
“I have got some rare pieces, but mostly it’s sort of a standard sort of price of 10 to 20 quid. There is some higher priced stuff, but let them seek it out, I don’t want to give too much away really.”
Phil has lofty ambition’s for the future. He said: “I’d like to get a bigger shop eventually, but it’s going to take at least three years, because I’ve signed up to this [lease] for six years.
“Its cheap and cheerful, its small but it gets the point across.
“Saturday is a chance for people to come in and have a look around.
“We’ll see what happens, fingers crossed.”
