THERE was no fowl play over the Bank Holiday weekend as the Great Andover River Duck Race returned.
Anton Rotary Club put on the event, which took place on Monday and was called a ‘tremendous success’ by organisers.
Eight races took place during the afternoon, each involving 200 ducks. Race goers bet £1 on the duck they thought would win, with prizes awarded for the first three to cross the finish line.
Further entertainment was also on offer, with singing performances from Jake Ward and Laura Shears and facepainting provided by Lauren Mildenberger.
In total more than £1,500 was raised during the day. Schools that sold duck tickets ahead of the event were able to retain the proceeds, with Andover Church of England and Vigo primary schools making more than £500 between them.
The Rotary Club then made a further £1,000 through its own ticket sales, with that money going back into the community to assist Andover charities.
A club spokesperson said: “The duck racing was a tremendous success all due to the hard work put in by the committee leading up to the day and then the excellent work by club members to ensure all the elements of the event ran smoothly.”
The club also thanked the many sponsors of the event, the schools that participated in selling tickets and all those who turned up on the day to support the event.
