THE owners of an Overton pub will be taking a well-deserved break after more than two decades in the industry.
Husband and wife Shannon and Caroline Wells have sold the lease to the Red Lion — however the venue will continue to operate under new ownership.
Speaking to the Advertiser, Caroline said: “We had the Red House [in Whitchurch] for ten years and then we’ve been here 12 so that’s 22 years in the pub trade.
“I think we deserved a bit of a rest so we just decided it was time now to take a bit of a break.”
“But we have had some brilliant times here,” she added.
Over the years the pub has raised thousands of pounds for charity through its pub quizzes, including one event that brought in more than £1,000.
The couple will run the pub for one final weekend across Friday and Saturday, September 6 and 7, with a party planned to ensure the owners sign off in style.
A wood-fired pizza truck will provide food and there are plans to bring in a band for live entertainment.
Caroline added: “A huge thanks to all the people of Overton who have supported us over the years.
“It’s important for local communities to support local places and Overton has plenty of them.”
