THE grass is greener for a Chilbolton man who has set up his own gardening business after working on a farm for 37 years.
Mark Tiller decided to apply the skills he has gained through his agricultural work in a new venture which has now benefitted from a £750 Business Incentive Grant from Test Valley Borough Council.
Mark, who is well known to the Chilbolton and Wherwell community, said he wanted to take on a new challenge having gradually moved from farm labouring to looking after gardens.
He said: “I’ve certainly gained a lot of experience in the farming industry but one of the aspects I enjoyed most was caring for the gardens.
“I think the time is right for this new challenge and I’m very grateful for the support of the community and Test Valley. This funding will make a big difference and help me to manage the work I have lined up for the coming weeks and months.”
Harewood ward member, councillor David Drew, added: “Mark’s experience is second to none and I’ve no doubt his new venture will be a huge success.
“With the council having just passed a resolution to declare a climate emergency, it was great to be supporting a new business that not only provides gardening services but also goes to customers using an electrically-assisted bicycle. I know Mark is a valued member of his immediate community and I wish him luck.”
The council’s Business Incentive Grants are available to anyone looking to set up their own business in Test Valley. Anyone who successfully applies for the grant will receive £750 if their business is still going strong six months later.
These funds have become available to the community as a consequence of the council’s prudent investments, financial management and the use of the New Homes Bonus.
