BOOTS has confirmed its High Street pharmacy in Andover will be closing down in June, but reassures customers that its Chantry Centre store will remain open.
This comes after fashion giants, Topshop and Dorothy Perkins also announced they will be closing their Andover branches in the middle of March.
A spokesperson from the Walgreens Boots Alliance said: “We can confirm that we have plans to close our store on the High Street in Andover, and this is expected to happen later this year.
“The store have been made aware of the plans and will be offered jobs at nearby Boots stores in the case of closure.”
American owner, Walgreens, announced that the firm was reviewing its Boots The Chemist estate after it suffered its “most difficult quarter” in its history and needed to take “decisive steps to reduce costs in the UK.”
Councillor Nick Matthews, who represents Andover Romans ward on Test Valley Borough Council, told the Advertiser: “Our high streets are indeed suffering from new shopping cultures, such as online shopping.
“My hope is that this new town look will increase footfall in the town.”
Back in 2013, the town attracted nearly 950,000 shoppers coming to the high street which dropped by nearly 300,000 in 2019.
