THE GLOOMY weather didn't deter people across Andover marking the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
While VE Day on May 8 marked the end of the war in Europe in May 1945, many thousands of Armed Forces personnel continued to be involved in the war in the Far East.
VJ Day marks both the surrender of Japan on August 15, 1945 and the end of the Second World War, after almost six years.
The surrender followed the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki - the first and only time in the history of warfare such a destructive weapon has been used.
The Japanese government on August 10communicated its intention to surrender under the terms of the Potsdam Declaration.
On Saturday, veterans and residents paying their respects gathered outside St Mary's Church to pay their respects.
Councillor Iris Anderson was one of those in attendance.
She said: "I was very proud to stand by the cenotaph in St Mary's Church.
"Let us all work together for peace in the world."
Elsewhere in the county, members of the Hampshire County Council’s Music Service produced an online musical tribute to mark the anniversary.
The full performance was shared on the council's social media.
