Local sports teams have stepped up to the plate to help support the work of Andover Foodbank.
Ra F.C, FC Salisbury and Andover Town have all helped gather items including food, toys and clothes to provide to vulnerable children and families across our area.
Ra F.C got involved in the foodbank’s Christmas shoebox appeal, where items including sweets, toys, clothing accessories and toiletries were donated to produce presents for vulnerable children in Test Valley. This was organised by the club’s events and fundraising officer, Pascale Tree, and Julia Hill.
Ra F.C chairman Nicholas Asamoah said: “Ra F.C is a club that loves football and care for our community.
“Our players in support by their parents, wanted to give back to the community and decided to give to children who are in need.
“The club is also holding raffles to raise money for Andover young carers before Christmas and other local events planned in for the coming months which we hope residents can join in and help us.”
FC Salisbury’s Under 7s team also got involved in the shoebox appeal, with each member making a box.
The club said: “FC Salisbury Under 7’s are proud to support the Andover Foodbank Shoebox Appeal, and each child in the team was really keen to get involved with such a worthwhile cause.”
Manager Brendon Summers added: “The boys have really enjoyed putting the shoeboxes together, and feel proud of themselves for doing something kind for other children who face a challenging Christmas.”
But it wasn’t just the youth sides who were getting involved. Andover Town FC collected donations from team members and fans before its home game on Saturday October 24 against Hythe & Dibden.
A box was left at the visitor’s entrance for donations, with each player bringing a donation as well.
The club said there had been a “great response” and that they “hope to do another push for [donations] at Christmas time.”
They added: “Thank you to all who brought food along and supported the drive to support Andover Foodbank.”
