Poundland has prompted debate among Andover residents for selling adult toys.

The budget retailer launched a new £1 vibrator in May 2020 after the business revealed a massive surge in the sales of pregnancy test kits thanks to the coronavirus lockdown.

The chain said at the time the £1 Caress would be sold in one of its 700 Poundland stores which were able to remain open to sell essential items.

But not everyone is a fan of the low-cost items.

Including one Andover resident who said on Facebook they were "disgusted" by the products.

Poundland's decision to sell this type of stock has sparked a debate around morality with residents in the town.

One person sarcastically thanked Poundland for keeping "dirty products in the perfect view of children".

While others embraced the decision.

One wrote: “Why are people so prudish? If my kids ask, then I just tell them they're adult toys! Honestly, you're gonna raise naive, clueless kids if u shield them from absolutely everything. Kids will ask once, accept the answer and move on. That's what kids do.”

A Facebook post on the subject attracted several memes and jokes, with many finding fun in the debate.

“Can anyone give me a review on the bodysuit? Asking for a friend,” said one user.

“I’m heading down there tomorrow,” said another one.

A couple of users defended Poundland and said the items were kept in the back of the store and was out of plain sight.

One person said: “I saw them when I went in a couple of weeks ago. They are right at the back of the shop in a corner not on a main aisle! Kids won't know what they are anyway! It’s the 21st century, get a grip!!!”

Poundland has been contacted for a comment.
