A CHILDREN’S hospice charity in Sutton Scotney is set to get a resource boost, after a Usborne books representative decided to launch a fundraiser to support them.

Naomi House and Jacksplace is an organisation which provides hospice facilities for life-limited and life-threatened children and young people across central-southern England.

Former hospice carer Yvette Charman, who now works as an Usborne book organiser, decided she wanted to give something back to the charity, and has set up a fundraising appeal to purchase books, activities and jigsaws for the children and their families.

Yvette also supports schools and nurseries to gain free books, and says she is “really passionate to get books into children's hands and share the love of reading”.

She said: “I am trying to raise funds to get books, activities and jigsaws to the fantastic children's hospice. Years ago, I worked as a carer at the hospice and loved my time there in this amazing place.

“With this pandemic ongoing, I thought it would be nice to be able to give the hospice new books to be able to have available for all children and young adults that stay at the hospice, including the families.

Less than a week into her efforts, the 39-year-old from Portsmouth has already raised more £300.

Yvette added; “ It is amazing and I feel so proud that I have already surpassed my original idea of getting £250, so now I will keep going for them.

“I feel really passionate about helping them as it's a charity that is really close to my heart.”
