A week after an embarrassing episode of placement of bench at the new Town Mills development, the contractors have reinstalled the seat, now facing the river.
As part of the development project carried out by the Test Valley Borough Council, the builders had initially placed the bench facing a Wilko store instead of the picturesque waterfront behind it.
After many residents contacted the leader of the council, Cllr Phil North, the bench has now been reversed, and looks stunning.
The council leader shared his excitement, saying: “It was great to have a wander around the new Riverside Park at Town Mills this afternoon.
“The area has been completely transformed and, despite the weather, looks stunning. I’m also delighted to report that the benches are now facing towards the river!”
He added: “Contractors are due to be off site in a few days with the pathway through the park scheduled to be open from next week.
There is, of course, some finishing touches that Test Valley will manage over the next few weeks, including further landscaping, planting and the installation of new black railings, establishing a more traditional edging to pocket park, as well as painting the bridge by Simply Health.”
Cllr North continued: “The grass areas will also remain fenced off for a short while, as the freshly laid lawn and grass seed settles into place. The new trees are also starting to bud up, which should provide some additional greenery this spring.”
The project, which has seen new walkways constructed as well as the creation of a new riverside park, will be finished by spring, according to the council.
However, the incorrect installation of bench had put the council in spot as many residents were left chuckling over the error.
Cllr North had said he immediately raised the issue with council officers.
He had added that the bench company would fix the issue at no extra cost.
