A CHILDREN’S hospice charity in Sutton Scotney will be receiving more than £500 worth of brand new books, after a Usborne books representative decided to launch a fundraiser to support them.
Naomi House and Jacksplace is an organisation which provides hospice facilities for life-limited and life-threatened children and young people across central-southern England.
Former hospice carer Yvette Charman, who now works as an Usborne book organiser, decided she wanted to give something back to the charity, and set up a fundraising appeal to purchase books, activities and jigsaws for the children and their families.
Yvette also supports schools and nurseries to gain free books, and says she is “really passionate to get books into children's hands and share the love of reading”.
She said: “Years ago, I worked as a carer at the hospice and loved my time there in this amazing place.
“With this pandemic ongoing, I thought it would be nice to be able to give the hospice new books to be able to have available for all children and young adults that stay at the hospice, including the families.
The 39-year-old from Portsmouth has now raised more than £500, and last week placed an order of books for the charity.
Yvette added: “ It feels amazing and I feel so proud."
