A SCHEME offering free parking for NHS staff and care workers in Wiltshire is set to come to an end this month after being implemented in March 2020.

Wiltshire Council has announced that, following the publication of the government’s roadmap for lifting Covid-19 restrictions, free parking on streets and in council-run car parks for NHS and car workers, will end on June 21.

Cllr Dr Mark McClelland, cabinet member for transport, said: “We know how important NHS and care workers have been throughout this pandemic, and we have supported their hard work with free parking on streets and in all Wiltshire Council car parks since March 2020.

“This has been a difficult decision, but as we look to take the next step on the Government’s roadmap in June, in line with national policy, free parking for NHS and care workers will end on 21 June.

“We had more than 600 key workers sign up for this service with us during the pandemic, and many more obtained their free passes on the Government website.

“I’d like to pay tribute to all key workers across Wiltshire and beyond who have done such a wonderful job to help us all during the past 15 months.”

Normal parking arrangements will return on 21 June across all Wiltshire Council car parks and on street parking. To find out more, people should visit: www.wiltshire.gov.uk/parking
