A driver has been hospitalised following a crash in Ludgershall which blocked the main road yesterday afternoon (July 8).
Police were summoned to a two-vehicle collision on the A342 (Andover Road) by Bell Street at around 2:50pm after a silver Mitsubishi collided with a Land Rover towing a trailer. The driver of the Mitsubishi was taken to hospital.
The incident caused severe disruption after blocking the main artery through the heart of Ludgershall. There would significant queues following the incident, with two police cars dispatched to the scene to help clear the road.
The road reopened shortly afterwards, with the driver of the Mitsubishi taken to hospital as a precaution following the crash. Highways teams were also called to the site to clear debris from the road, which caused some delays as the road was reduced to one lane.
The Mitsubishi was cleared onto the pavement, allowing traffic to continue. At around 4:15pm, a recovery vehicle arrived, causing the road to be closed again as the car was lifted onto the truck.
Drivers were turning around as heavy delays built through the heart of town. Following the recovery of the vehicle, the road reopened to traffic.
In a statement to the Advertiser, Wiltshire Police said that there are currently no criminal investigations taking place following the incident, with “no offences deemed to have been committed at the time.”
