Anton Rotary Club is back in business after lockdown with a series of events planned for the coming months.
Like so many other clubs and charities across the UK, the club had been unable to meet in person for some time, with weekly club meetings have recommenced at The Oak in Smannell on Thursday evenings.
Their first event following lockdown was at the Countess of Brecknock’s 10@10 event, where fundraisers walked up to 10 miles to raise hundreds of pounds in a night walk on Saturday, July 10. Many of the marshals for the event were part of the rotary club, guiding participants around the course.
On Saturday, July 31, the club will be helping out another hospice, Naomi House and Jacksplace, with its Bubble Rush event at Charlton Lakes. In this event, participants start a five kilometre run around the lakes in a sea of foam, passing through four bubble stations producing thousands of colourful bubbles.
The following month, the club will be hosting its own event, the Great Anton Duck Day, in the Town Mills Riverside Park. On Monday, August 30, there will be six duck races throughout the day, as well as food, drink and other attractions for the free event.
In September, the club will be running a metal detecting event using land kindly donated for the event by a local farmer. These events have been extremely well attended in the past and the weekend of the September 18/19 is already shaping up to be another great weekend for metal detectorists.
Rotary International were founded in 1905 as a secular and non-political humanitarian service organisation, with millions of members across the world.
The club is open to new members to come and join them, with meetings held from 7pm each Thursday with external speakers and discussions, as well as helping the Andover community where the club can.
Potential new members are invited to come along to any of the club’s meetings by contacting the secretary, Alex Armstrong, on 01264 773690 or 07939 916416.
