An Andover man has been killed after being knocked off his bike last week.
The 70-year-old cyclist was struck by a car on Friday, July 23 on the B3400 between Andover and Hurstbourne Priors, where a silver Vauxhall Vectra hit the cyclist just after 10am. Police said the man suffered “serious injuries” and he was taken to Southampton General Hospital by Air Ambulance.
Following the incident, the man passed away on Wednesday, July 28, with police having informed his next of kin. The car driver, an 81-year-old man from Whitchurch, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and has been released under police investigation.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the area at the time or may have seen what had happened. Likewise, we urge any motorists who may have dash-cam footage which either captured the incident or the moments that led to the collision to contact us.
“Any information you may have, no matter how insignificant you think it might be, could help aid our investigation.”

The fatal collision is the latest in a number of lethal crashes that have taken place in and around Andover in recent months.
On June 16, Vernham Dean man James East was killed while riding his motorbike on the B3051. The 59-year-old was involved in a collision with a Skoda Fabia and a Nissan Qashqai at around 6pm, and died at the scene.
Then, on June 20, an 80-year-old suffered a “suspected medical episode” behind the wheel in Overton, causing a collision on the B3400 and the road to be closed. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the emergency services.
