For Andover, pubs offer more than just pints. They bring people together and have been a huge miss during lockdown.
Whether it's a country-side spot with great grub or your village local, Andover is home to some wonderful boozers.
A choice of top-quality tipples and a menu filled with fantastic food are often a given, but pubs across Andover are also community hubs.
With pubs meaning something slightly different to everyone, everyone has their favourite.
Hence, obviously, we received a wide range of responses when we asked our readers on Facebook to suggest best places to go for a night out in Andover.
This was the question we asked: “If you met someone who was new to Andover, where would you recommend they go for an evening out?
The Hawk and The Hatchet were two of the popular pubs tagged by our readers.
One reader said: “There’s lots of nice country pubs – the Hawk and the Hatchet to name two or further afield Winchester has lots to offer.
Another reader is however sad that Andover does not offer a nightlife as good as in the past.
“The Museum of Army Flying for a good day out. As for nightlife, there’s nothing good since Flicks has gone.”
One reader commented that a pub crawl is indeed the best thing to do on an Andover night.
“A pub crawl round all of them to see which one they like best. There is the Central Club and the Wolversdene, while The Charlotte is nice too.”
There are also huge fans for village pubs – a significant element of Andover’s lifestyle.
A reader wrote: “Village pub like the Hawke at Amport [is the best place]. The food is lovely and they do nice cocktails depends on your age.”
Among other places tipped for a good night out were were The Cricketers Inn in Longparish, The Poplar Farm in Old Salisbury Road, Bourne Valley Inn in Upper Link, Siam Orchid restaurant in George Yard, Pizza Express in High Street, Captain’s Messe & Fish Bar in Bridge Street and The Oak in Smannell Road.
