A MAN in his 70s has been taken to hospital in a serious condition after he was involved in a single-vehicle crash in Andover this morning.
The driver's green Honda Accord was on its side when emergency services arrived on scene at Churchill Way, with paramedics, police officers and firefighters all attending the scene.
The air ambulance was dispatched, along with a number of ambulances from South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS).
The road was also closed between Enham Arch roundabout and Walworth roundabout whilst emergency services dealt with the incident.
Hampshire Constabulary were called at 11.06am after reports of the crash first came in.
As firefighters arrived on scene minutes later, they were confronted with the vehicle on its side with paramedics treating one patient.
The driver has since been taken to Basingstoke hospital in a serious condition, and police say the road has reopened.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: "We were called at 11.06am this morning (Monday 30 August) to a report of a single vehicle collision on Churchill Way, Andover.
"The vehicle involved was a green Honda Accord.
"The driver of the vehicle, a man in his 70s, has been taken to Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital in a serious condition.
"A road closure was in place from Walworth roundabout while emergency services dealt with the incident.
"The road closure was lifted shortly after 12.40pm."
A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service added: "Firefighters from Andover were called at 11:08 this morning to a single-vehicle RTC on Churchill Way.
"The car was on its side as the crew arrived, and SCAS paramedics already on the scene treating one patient, who was later conveyed to hospital.
"There were no other casualties as HIWFRS provided scene safety before returning to station at 11:45."
A spokesperson for SCAS said: "We were called at 11:01 to a vehicle that had come off the road. We sent to the scene a rapid response vehicle, two ambulance crews, the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) an ambulance officer and the air ambulance to assess and treat one elderly male who was in a life threatening condition.
"Following assessment and treatment by all our crews on scene the patient was taken by land ambulance to North Hampshire Hospital."
