DURING the school summer holidays, Andover and District Model Engineering Society (ADMES) held an open day at its site near Wherwell.
The event offered miniature train rides around the group’s extensive track to the public, as well as refreshments and other static displays.
It was a joint fundraiser, with monies being raised to support The Countess of Brecknock Hospice at Andover hospital, which recently celebrated its 30th anniversary, and to help enable the society to renovate some of its facilities.
ADMES chairman, Jon Godfrey, said: “I was pleased to be able to hand a cheque for £500 to Bruce Parker MBE, former BBC presenter and a Trustee of the Hospice, which will be used to help continue to innovate and improve facilities at the Hospice.
“While the railway is not often open to the public, the society actively welcomes new members with interests in model engineering, traction engines and model and miniature railways.”
ADMES holds its meetings weekly, on Wednesday evenings and Sundays.
