AN ANDOVER pizzeria helped the town’s firefighters celebrate Emergency Services Day by providing them with delicious pizza on the house.
Fireaway Pizza, on London Street, decided to make the gesture as a thank you for the hard work of the local fire crews, writing: “Giving back to our local heroes, Andover fire station got free pizzas. Thank you for looking after Andover.”
After tucking into the complimentary dinner, Andover Fire Station responded: “Thank you so much it was thoroughly enjoyed!”
Meanwhile, at Ludgershall Fire Station, an annual awards ceremony was held to mark the day.
In a Facebook post, special mentions were given to firefighters Clements and Moorehouse who were each presented with a Chief Fire Officer Letter of Commendation “for their outstanding actions above and beyond the call of duty in pursuit of our Service aim of Changing and Saving Lives.”
It added: “Thank you for all your efforts, hard work and for being a positive example for others to follow.”
Emergency Services Day, or 999 Day, is held annually across the UK on September 9, supported by the Queen, Prime Minister and First Ministers and is a chance to show support for our NHS and emergency services, and the two million people who work and volunteer across the various sectors.
