A mobile post office in Andover is seeing twice the usual footfall following the closure of Weyhill Post Office.
The Mobile Post Office at Rosebourne Garden Centre has had a very busy day yesterday (Thursday, November 19) compared to the previous week.
The Mobile Post Office is a branch on wheels, handling national and international post, home shopping returns, home and business banking on behalf of all High Street banks, car tax renewals, bill payments and most anything a bricks and mortar branch does.
It visits Rosebourne every Wednesday and Thursday, 3pm to 5pm, and Fridays, 3.30pm to 5pm.
The Weyhill Post Office at McColl's in Weyhill Road has been closed from last week. While the post office looks to reopen in a new location, residents are advised to use the Rosebourne mobile post office three times a week.
The Rosebourne mobile post office was started following the closure of Thruxton post office five years ago. It is a branch on its own, and a franchise based out of Barton Stacey post office.
Kevin May, the postmaster at Barton Stacey Post Office, who operates the Rosebourne mobile post office said more people are visiting the mobile post office since the Weyhill post office is closed.
“I was twice as busy yesterday compared to last week,” Mr May said.
“I think a lot of people are going on Post Office to find out their nearest post office and it directs the to Rosebourne.
“The mobile post office has been going to Rosebourne for about five years. It used to be there from 3pm to 5pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays. We increased it to Friday 3.30pm to 5pm just before the first lockdown. At other times, it can be found at Grateley, Shipton Bellinger and Nether Wallop.”
