THE ENDING of another year is but a few hours away, with it may come feelings of sadness and melancholy at what we have lived through and been part of, but hopefully immense pride too, at what we have all achieved overcoming hurdles and adversity emerging triumphantly out onto the other side.
Globally, events have caused changes at how we perhaps perceive our roles today. This year, I’ve seen friends, welcome new additions to their families, promotions at work, some putting their feet on the property ladder, businesses opening, and our town living and adjusting to the seasons events that were well known for.
As is traditional, when reflecting here are just some moments that will live on for me.
The River Side Park Opening.
The Pride of Andover Awards,
Being the unofficial photographer at a friend’s eightieth birthday party.
Ben receiving his Attitude of Gratitude Award.
Helping at the Andover Climate Day of Action.
Attending the Remembrance Day Service.
Speaking at The Andover Vision Event at St Mary’s Church.
With the help of this column in the Advertiser, my twitter feed and Facebook, I’ve strived to promote good deeds that I have seen or been part of in Andover, believing there is no sweeter sound than one’s name on another’s lips.
Actions I feel will always trump words.
Which is why I spend my time promoting people, businesses, and highlighting all those that quietly do nice things without thought for recompense.
While in the outside world the latest epidemic wreaks havoc, here in Andover were cushioned from the very worst of it, by the actions of those responsible for our welfare.
Be that in the medical profession, the emergency services, the councillors responsible for making the day-to-day decisions, our police force, or the clergy who administer to us all in hour of need.
This Christmas like indeed the previous one, won’t have been full of cheer for those whose families’ dynamics, have altered with the passing of a loved one.
Tomorrow we start afresh with hope renewed for another year with spring summer and autumn to look forward too.
Maybe as you reach these final words of my column for 2021, we can give thanks for what we have lived through, and spare a moment in contemplation for those who grieve silently as the chimes ring in the 2022. May the good lord bless us all.
