OVERTON residents have criticised a developer’s bid to build 24 new homes on land close to the village school.
Natta Building Company Ltd has lodged an application with Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council to build 24 homes on land next to Court Drove.
Within the Overton Neighbourhood Plan, which was adopted in 2016, the allocation for the site is only for 11 dwellings, but the developer has said as the borough council is unable to demonstrate five years of deliverable sites to meet housing needs and “great weight should be given to this in the determination of the application”.
If approved, the development would be made up of six two-bed homes, 14 three-bed homes, two four-bed and two five-bed houses.
However, the proposal has come under fire from residents who have raised concerns surrounding traffic, parking and the number of homes planned.
Holly Scott, of Boathouse Meadow, said: “Traffic is truly awful in this area as it is, the number of cars at peak times is already a danger to children and residents alike.
“New residents will be subject to parking by parents around the streets which will likely cause constant complaints to the school which will cause undue stress.”
Another resident, Janet Evans, of Lordfield Gardens, wrote: “The plan for 24 houses exceeds the houses allowed in the neighbourhood plan by over 100 per cent. The density of traffic generated by the additional houses at peak times would be untenable with the roadway as narrow and congested as it is.”
