CONCERNS have been raised over the future of two derelict buildings on an Andover street.

The former Wessex Fixings and Anton Laundry units on Shepherd Spring Lane have been empty for several years, and have become dilapidated and something of an eyesore.

War councillor for Andover St Mary’s, Cllr Andersen told the Advertiser that she would “love” to see something positive done with the sites, but added that there are a number of rules and regulations to consider due to being a part of Andover’s conservation area.

The conservation area was was first designated in 1969 and later extended in 1984. It sets out areas of special architectural or historic interest and helps to protect the town’s heritage.

It comes after fire crews were called to attend a fire at one of the derelict properties last month.

On Saturday, January 22, firefighters from Andover and Whitchurch tackled the blaze.

A spokesperson for Test Valley Borough Council told the Advertiser that the authority is in contact with the owners of the buildings, but that, in terms of the future use of the site, that is not something they can disclose.

They added: “TVBC has been and are in contact with the owners of the site to ensure they keep the site tidy, secure and weather tight.”
