RESIDENTS at an Andover retirement village have celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
On Sunday, February 6, the community at Chantry Lodge gathered in their communal garden at 3pm.
They had arranged to plant a Mountain Ash Tree and dedicate it in recognition of the Platinum Jubilee of HM Queen Elizabeth II’s Accession to the throne.
A plaque was unveiled by the residents’ chairman, Tony Pratt along with the chairman of the gardening committee, Angela Morris, and another member of that committee, Roy Batterby.
Following the dedication, the residents returned to the lounge to enjoy afternoon tea with a variety of home-made scones.
They watched some extracts of old footage of King George V1’s funeral, the Queen’ Accession to the throne and her Coronation in 1953.
Residents’ secretary, June Harris, spoke about how she learnt of the news when she was working for the RAF at Amport House.
