ANDOVER will see a special Jubilee bus operating through the town this year as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebration.
Stagecoach South has unveiled the Jubilee bus, which will be seen across the year, on services throughout Hampshire.
The bus was officially launched in the week of the 70th anniversary week of the Queen’s accession to the throne, which took place on February 1952.
The platinum jubilee bus will be seen across the year, on services throughout Hampshire.
Managing Director of Stagecoach South, Edward Hodgson said: “The whole nation and our commonwealth countries are gearing up for a big celebration in June and we felt that it was important for us to honour this historic milestone within the communities we serve.
“We are therefore proud to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, with this special bus that will be used throughout the year on our local bus networks.
The bus features the official Platinum Jubilee emblem, and has been finished in a white, platinum and purple adaption of the Stagecoach livery scheme. The platinum colour represents Her Majesty’s 70 years on the throne, whilst the purple colour is synonymous with royalty.
Mark Jackson, operations manager for Stagecoach in Andover, said “This is such an historic moment, as it is the first time that any British monarch has attained 70 years on the throne.
“We hope that our customers and residents across the area will enjoy travelling on, and seeing, the jubilee bus on the streets throughout the year.”
The bus will initially enter service at Andover depot in Hampshire, before commencing a tour of neighbouring Hampshire depots at Aldershot, Basingstoke and Winchester later in 2022.
The jubilee bus is one of two completed by the bus company. The second bus will be launched at the company’s Worthing depot in West Sussex.
