Children at Wellington Lions Primary in Tidworth and Wellington Eagles Primary in Ludgershall had fun celebrating Chinese New Year last week with a Chinese themed lunch.
Food was provided and cooked by kitchen staff in house who worked hard to produce a colourful and delicious selection of foods for the children to try. On the menu were Char Sui chicken, spring rolls, egg fried rice and beautifully decorated tiger biscuits to celebrate the Chinese year of the Tiger. To end the lunch each child was given a Chinese fortune cookie to open.
Claire Addis, executive head of both schools, said: “The children really enjoyed trying all the different foods on the menu. The staff did an amazing job of decorating the hall which really added to the atmosphere. For some children it will be the first time they have tried Chinese food.
Both our schools embrace our vision of the curious child, we believe it is important that every child gets the opportunity to experience different cultures and expand their food choices.”
She continued: “For our next themed lunch we will be visiting Ireland to celebrate St Patrick’s Day.”
The staff decorated the school hall with red lanterns, a Chinese dragon and wore outfits to help the children enjoy the experience.
Ella in year 2 said: “It was really fun, I liked the tiger biscuits. I wish we could have them every day!”
Jack in year 6 added: “I liked trying the different foods and they decorated the hall so it felt like we were in a Chinese restaurant.”
