OLYMPIC gold medallist Tom Daley passed through Overton on Tuesday (February 15) during his mammoth ride for Comic Relief.
Diver Tom is taking on an epic endurance challenge as he rows, cycles, swims and runs his way from the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford to his hometown of Plymouth in aid of Comic Relief.
On Tuesday morning, Tom started the day with a swim at the Redgrave Pinsent Rowing Lake near Reading, then continued by bicycle through Berkshire, into Hampshire, passing through Kingsclere, Overton, before travelling to Winchester and Southampton.
Crowds of people braved the rain as they cheered on the 27-year-old, including Year 4 children from Overton Primary School who excitedly waited for him to arrive.
Speaking before he set off, Tom said: “Lots of people would think after an Olympic Games and being successful at the Olympics, you would want a little break and put your feet up and not do any exercise for a little bit, but not me.
“I’m always up for a new challenge, always up for trying something new, and when this opportunity came up, the thought of being able to do this with Comic Relief, to try and raise money.”
From Southampton, Tom is continuing his cycle westwards, ready for his last day, where he will be taking on a 30-mile run from Bovey Castle to Plymouth.
