During National Apprenticeship Week, students at an Andover school were given the opportunity to find out about working in a variety of industries.
After a safety briefing and short video, students at Winton Community Academy on London Road donned their hard hats and high viz jackets for a site tour with the site manager of Mildren Construction Ltd, where they were shown different buildings and the different stages of construction that were happening.
Students then had the benefit of talking with different members of Mildren staff learning about the different job roles and about apprenticeship opportunities, and career paths that could be available to them.
Some of Winton Year 10 students were also given the opportunity to test out their barbering and hairdressing skills at the Elements Salon at Andover College.
Students learnt different styling and cutting skills, and took on different challenges.
Students also learnt information on the different pathways, apprenticeships and opportunities open to them at Andover College.
Winton has also welcomed a couple of inspirational guest speakers talking about what apprenticeship opportunities are available after leaving school, including Laine Watson from Nurseplus UK Ltd UK in Andover, and Winton’s own alumni Jake Hutchence from Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO).
