AN ANDOVER councillor has called for a ‘united stand’ in tackling anti-social behaviour in the town.

As previously reported, a dispersal order was put in place last weekend (February 11 to 13) in response to reports of “large groups” causing issues in the town centre in recent weeks.

The order gave police the power to remove individuals from the vicinity for a 48 hour period, as well as confiscate items used.

Reacting to the news, Cllr Stu Waue, who has previously done a lot of work to address the problems, told the Advertiser: “I’m pleased that there is action being taken to tackle the anti-social behaviour, but there is concern amongst residents that when the dispersal orders are in place, the problem simply moves elsewhere.”

Calling for everyone to take the matter seriously, Cllr Waue continued: “I would hope that it is helping the police to identify regular offenders and that there is work going on to deal with them.

“I know there are a lot of people working very hard on this, and I thank them for their efforts, but to truly tackle this problem will require all stakeholders to make the same united stand against anti-social behaviour that myself and Cllr Andersen have taken.”
