GUSTS of up to 70mph have been recorded near Andover as Storm Eunice hits causing road and train line closures, and power cuts.

Much of Hampshire is covered by a red weather warning, but according to the Met Office an amber alert covers Andover. Meaning there is a “good chance that flying debris could result in a danger to life”.

Those who need to use public transport are majorly affected. Stagecoach announced this morning that it was cancelling all services through Hampshire.

South Western Railway has also reported that a tree has fallen on the line at Overton, stopping services between Salisbury and Basingstoke. The train provider has recently announced that all services are suspended due to high winds.

In Danebury, Stockbridge, a van was blown off the road (see below).

Residents are also experiencing power cuts in several parts of Andover. It has been reported that there are outages in the SP11 and SP10 postcode areas. SSEN has said that the outages are likely to last until 11pm.

One area experiencing issues is Middle Wallop. The Met Office has reported that gusts of up to 70mph has been recorded in the village.

Boscombe Down near Amesbury in Wiltshire has seen wind speeds reach 69mph, while at Little Rissington near Stow-on-the-Wold in Gloucestershire they have hit 68mph.

Several organisations have today said they are closed, with Andover Foodbank and Andover Museum reporting their decisions to close on social media.
