BOTH high and low pressure systems will control Hampshire and the Isle of Wight’s weather during the week ahead.

In short, this means a mix bag of meteorological ingredients will feature in the forecast period and there is a threat of snow for a time later in the week.

Putting more detail on what both counties can look forward to, I expect some dry periods interspersed with unsettled conditions. Low pressure along with a weather front is likely to become slow moving over the English Channel during the next day or so. This system will introduce generally mild weather to southern counties but also the possibility of showers or more general rain for a time.

However, as the weekend progresses high pressure will build across the British Isles signalling the arrival of a drier and hopefully much brighter spell and this theme should last for several days at least.

Thereafter, the weather is set to go downhill as rain-bearing Atlantic weather systems head into the UK clashing with high pressure east of our shores. But with an anticyclone likely to be in place over mainland Europe and a feed of much colder air pushing north from France into our patch this could well bring a short-lived wintry spell across Hampshire and the Island. However, this is not set in stone but if it does materialise, sleet and snow is a strong possibility.

Daily maximum temperatures will be around average for early-March to start with but dropping away next week. Some frosts are expected on the coldest nights with minimum air temperatures falling to about -3C in well-sheltered spots and just below zero elsewhere.
