A METHODIST church in Overton has decided to close later this year.
Overton Methodist Church at 14 Winchester Street has announced it will cease worship in the premises in Overton with effect from May 31 this year.
The church council has officially applied for the closure.
The application will be formally considered by the church authorities this month and the final decision will be announced at the end of April.
According to church authorities, there will be a process of discernment regarding the future of the premises in the autumn.
Prior to any disposal of the premises there will need to be considerable work done with their surveyor and property advisors to determine the best way forward in keeping with the obligations to the charity commissioners and the custodian trustees of the Methodist church who hold the title of the buildings.
Any queries or comments about the closure of the church can be sent to the Revd Rachel Borgars (rachel.borgars@methodist.org.uk)
Meanwhile, a Methodist Church in Andover had recently undergone renovations to become inclusive and “accessible to everybody”.
Andover Methodist Church on Bridge Street was closed for nearly three months last year whilst it underwent a wide-ranging refit, including the addition of a new accessible toilet and a lift.
During that time, the church’s services were joined with the United Reformed Church in East Street in Andover.
