HAMPSHIRE police who were hunting for Rupert James who was wanted for a recall to prison have confirmed they have arrested a man.

Officers said they have carried out extensive enquiries to locate the 51-year-old, who had breached his licence, and they turned to the public to help find him.

This morning (March 15) a 51-year-old man was arrested.

A spokesperson from Hampshire Police said: “Thanks for sharing our appeal. We can confirm a 51-year-old man was arrested this morning in Basingstoke and is now in police custody.”

The force warned anyone found to be harbouring James who 'deliberately obstructed' their attempts to locate him may also be liable for arrest.

Hampshire Police previously said: "Can you help us find wanted man Rupert James, 51, from Basingstoke?

"He is described as being white, 5ft 9ins tall and of slim build.

"If you have seen him, or know where he is, please do not approach him, but call us on 999, quoting 44210400474.

"Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

"We would like to remind people that anyone found to be harbouring James to deliberately obstruct our attempts to locate him may be committing an offence and be liable for arrest themselves."
