IT IS one of the most recognisable trains ever built.
And now could be your chance to see it in Hampshire.
Trainspotters will be able to capture a glimpse of the world-famous Flying Scotsman as it passes through Southampton next week.
The train, which will be on a trip of Hampshire countryside, will set off from Salisbury on March 24 heading for the coast and the countryside.
Carrier Steam Dreams says the train will be able to be seen at a number of different stations on its journey, but exact timings or locations have not yet been given out.
This could be one of the final chances to see the famous locomotive before a major works programme is undertaken ahead of her centenary year in 2023.
However, a warning has been issued by Steam Dreams for those watching the train as it chugs by: "While we understand the interest in Flying Scotsman will be extremely high, we urge those wishing to view it on its tour dates to do so from a safe vantage point.
“It is vital that spectators do not venture onto the railway, particularly when it is on the mainline as a full timetable of regular services will also be running."
However, it will be a great experience for those on board will be able to catch a glimpse out to Southampton docks and the Solent.
After the views of the Solent are taken in, the train then turns inland and begins heading north, following the River Itchen to Eastleigh before heading back up to Salisbury.
For a ticket on-board, it’s not cheap, with seats stating at £79 and rising to £189. Steam Dreams says the trip is “perfect for those who want to enjoy steam without travelling to a destination, this trip allows you to sit back, relax and experience the leisurely pace of steam travel”.
