A TEN-YEAR-OLD schoolboy from Andover with ‘the biggest heart’ is cutting his long locks to raise money for a homelessness charity.

After shopping in Southampton where he saw a number of homeless people, Mason Gibbs, who attends Portway Junior School, decided that he wanted to do more than just give them his pocket money.

He had been growing his hair for four years and decided this was a cause he was willing to part with it for, so he launched a fundraiser with the aim of raising £100.

With nearly three weeks left until the big chop, Mason has already raised more than eight times that goal.

His mum, Lesley, said: “Mason’s been growing his hair for over four years and absolutely loves it. I was very shocked he asked to have it cut off, but not surprised. Everyone who knows Mason knows he has the biggest heart and is very kind and caring. I think he’s very brave and I’m extremely proud of him.”

She continued: “We looked at different charities and decided Shelter would be the best option as they help lots of different people with housing issues which is a cause that Mason is passionate about.

“We are overwhelmed with everyone’s generosity. Mason had a target of £100 that we thought was a big target to meet but to pass it and reach over £850, so far, we’re blown away! We are very grateful to everyone who has sponsored Mason and can’t thank everyone enough.”
