AN ANDOVER landlord has commissioned a brand new artwork on the side of his building to show support to the Ukrainian people following Russia’s invasion of the country.
Paul Wells, who owns a building which houses various shops on Black Swan Yard in Andover, decided to put up a ‘Dove of Peace’ artwork, to encourage residents to keep those affected at the forefront of their minds.
The 58-year-old, who lives in Marlow in Buckinghamshire, was approached by a friend, Ann Generlich, who is an artist based near Slough. She put together the concept and asked if she could use the side of his building to display it.
“It shows support for the Ukrainian people. A few people have asked what it’s about and everyone has said it’s a good idea,” said Paul.

“Ann was born and grew up in East Germany, and knew what the lack of freedom was all about until the wall came down in 1989, so she’s particularly keen to promote freedoms.”
He continued: “I wanted to try and keep it in people’s minds. It’s easier for people just to to put it to the back of their minds, and think it’s nothing to do with them.
“And if we get any refugees in Andover they will be able to see it as well and know that the town supports them and welcomes them.”
