A RESIDENT has been left astonished after seeing jackdaws nesting in a storm drain on the A303.
Karl Calloway, who lives in Andover spotted the pair of birds nesting near to the Dinky Dinner in Cholderton and has been enjoying watching them ever since.

He said: “They are building a nest in the little holes of the drain, and I have so far seen two of them, I think it must be a male and a female.
“I was really surprised to see them at first because they usually make their nests in chimneys. I have been watching them and they twist the twigs sideways to get it through, they are clever little things.”
Karl said cars are currently flying by and the birds "don’t seem to care", and he was shocked to see them there.
He added: “They are brave little things and I just have never seen anything else like it, it really took me by surprise.”

The jackdaw can be easily recognised and has a short, chunky bill, a grey 'shawl' around the back of the head, a black cap and a white eye.
