DOBBIES, the UK’s leading garden centre, has announced Andover’s Helping Your Community Grow project winner, seeing Rooting for Andover receive gardening resources to brighten up their green space in a sustainable way.
This spring, Dobbies’ Andover store is supporting this worthy project with advice, products and support to help their green space flourish.
Rooting for Andover is the town's only community garden and is looking to garden in a sustainable way. Rooting for Andover plans to make its own compost and mulches with Dobbies' expert support and community funding, in addition to providing a haven for wildlife and growing fruit and vegetables that the whole community can enjoy.
Michael Parker, chairman at Rooting for Andover, said: “We’re thrilled to have won Dobbies’ Helping Your Community Grow initiative and are looking forward to bringing our project to life. We’re really grateful for everyone’s support in getting us to this point and excited for what’s to come.”

Dobbies’ CEO, Graeme Jenkins, added: “Helping Your Community Grow is a really popular initiative in Andover and we’re thrilled to be announcing our winning project, Rooting for Andover, who are looking to make a difference to the local area. It’s been positive to see an enhanced importance on sustainability and environmentally-friendly practices this year, and we’re excited to see where our support takes them.”
In addition to the Andover winner announcement, public voting is now open to crown the national Helping Your Community Grow winner. Projects across the UK that have been successful so far in the process are now in with the chance of securing additional support from Dobbies.
There will be further opportunities for community groups looking to brighten up their local areas. Community groups are invited to contact their local store for details of the community initiatives available on a case-by-case basis.
Voting will remain open until May 16. For more information on how to register your vote, visit: dobbies.com/helping-your-community-grow.
