A GROUP of men that are completing a 12-hour golf challenge for charity are looking for sponsors.
Danny Howells, Corey McFarlane and Brett Paddock, collectively known as “The Marshals of Mulligans”, are completing the Longest Day Golf Challenge in honour of MacMillan Cancer Support.
The Marshals will attempt to complete the challenge on July 14 at the Hampshire Golf Club in Andover; the group plans to tee off at 6.30am.
The group hopes to raise over £500 for MacMillan with delivery company Ocado pledging to match donations up to £1000; at time of writing the group has raised £385 for charity.
However, before the group can tee off, they need to find one last sponsor to help them cover green’s fees for the day so they can use the golf club.

Danny said: “Even though it’s a charity event, we still all have to pay green’s fees.
“The original price they wanted for the whole day for the three of us was £280, but we managed to meet them in the middle and agreed to £50 each, so £150.
“So, what we’re trying to do at the moment is drum up interest in local sponsors to personally sponsor us for the day; we’ve asked for a minimum payment of £50 to try and get one of us, if not all of us, covered.”
Two sponsors have already been found, Oblivion Dance and Bladez Barbers, two Andover based businesses, and the men are currently looking for a third.
Businesses who choose to help cover the groups green fees will have the name of the business printed on the flyers the group is using to promote the event; the sponsor’s logo will also be printed on the polo shirts the men will wear as they complete the challenge, and the businesses will be tagged in every social media post the men make until they complete the challenge.
The Longest Day Golf Challenge tasks participants with completing 72 holes of golf in one day, between sunrise and sunset; the challenge takes part of its name from the longest day of the year, with Macmillan recommending that participants play either on or around that day to get the most amount of daylight needed to complete the challenge.

The Marshals have taken the challenge quite seriously, and are looking forward to raising money for MacMillan, with Danny saying: “My mother-in-law, she’s had cancer and survived, I believe Brett and Corey also have family members that have survived cancer themselves as well.
“So, we’re all relatively been affected by cancer, so it’s something that all three of us feel deeply proud of doing, and anything we do raise is a bonus for the charity.”
