THE new chairman of Hampshire County Council has issued a reminder to councillors of who they truly working for.
Former vice-chairman of the county council, Cllr Marge Harvey, was promoted at the council’s annual general meeting in Winchester today (May 19).
She replaces the outgoing Cllr Melville Kendal, and has decades of experience with both East Hampshire District Council and parish councils.
In her opening speech, Cllr Harvey reminded all politicians that first and foremost, they serve the residents of Hampshire.
She said: ‘Thank you for appointing me as your chairman – it’s a great honour and I will do my best to uphold the name of the council.
‘It’s a pleasure to work with such committed councillors and council officers, but we must all remember that we are here to serve the residents of Hampshire, and must continue to be good and effective.
‘My theme for the year is to promote health, and to make Hampshire a happier and healthier place to live.’
