AN ANNUAL charity race in Hurstbourne Tarrant has raised more than £5,000 for a variety of worthy causes in the area.

The Hurstbourne 5 Race took place on Saturday, April 30.

It was a five-mile multi terrain route in perfect weather conditions, through the woods above the community centre, where runners were tested with two brutal hills and treated to an incredible display of bluebells in Doles Wood to help ease the pain.

Bacon butties, bottled water, t-shirts and a First Village trophy were all sponsored by Vinoth Kumar, owner of the Family Shopper convenience store which has been at the heart of the community in recent years, particularly during the pandemic.

Since the first race in 2009, the HBT5 has raised over £30,000 for local charities.

Vinoth was proud to support the cause, by donating bacon, rolls and bottled water, and funding the First Village trophy which was won by 15-year-old Alex Culley, who, with his dad Ian are the first family members to both have their names inscribed on it.

The technical t-shirts, given to runners who complete the race, are sponsored by local businesses, including Vinoth’s store in the village.

This year’s race raised more £5,000 in profit, all of which was donated to Andover Young Carers, Enham Trust and the Hampshire & IOW Air Ambulance.

A spokesperson for the race committee said: "We are indebted to all our supporters and were incredibly pleased to welcome Vinoth and his team on board this year."
