A MURAL celebrating The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and featuring artwork designed by children has been unveiled.
A mural celebrating The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee has been unveiled in Thruxton.
The mural was designed by Thruxton resident Gill Odling who worked alongside the primary schools that make up the Skylark Federation.
The mural was sponsored by Trickers Ltd.
Children from the schools were asked to make drawings of what the jubilee meant to them.
Gill then took elements from the pictures and combined them into the mural.
The mural took almost a month to finish, with many people in the village working together to complete it.

It is located on the wall of a garage almost opposite the village hall.
Gill said that she loved working on the mural, saying: “It’s not something I would normally do at all.
“I used to be an art teacher, but it was just quite exciting to do it.
“It was very nice to be asked to do it, and I decided ‘Just try it’ basically, and it’s come out well.
“And it’s joyful!
“I think the children’s drawings make it; they really do, and people are loving it!”
Gill said that her favourite part of the mural is a small drawing of Prince Phillip that is in the top-left of the mural.
She continued: “The children didn’t put Prince Phillip in anywhere, and we decided, yesterday when we finished it, he needed to be there, somewhere.
“If you look in the top-left hand corner, there is a little drawing of Prince Phillip, and he is just looking down over her.

“Because, we thought, he was there for nearly all of her reign, and it was a shame not to have him there, so he’s just in the corner looking down on her.”
The mural is just one of the several ways Thruxton is celebrating The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
The village is also hosting 4 days of events over the Jubilee Bank Holiday.
The celebrations start with a beacon lighting ceremony on Thursday, June 2, and ends with a communal lunch on Sunday, June 5.
Other events taking place over the bank holiday include a screenings of a film of The Queen’s Coronation and the 1952 movie musical Singin’ in The Rain, as well as a Jubilee tea party, and a dance.
