AN ANDOVER park was kept clean and tidy over the bank holiday weekend thanks to a host of community volunteers.

Vigo Park played host to jubilee revellers on Sunday (June 5) for a picnic event organised by Andover Town Council.

Despite the grey sky, attendees enjoyed live music, balloon art, cupcakes and sweets, and children's games.

Ahead of the event, attitude of gratitude campaigner Manuela Wahnon cleared the area of litter to make sure it would be a safe and enjoyable space to sit. She said she wanted to make sure it was "pristine" in time for the event set up by councillors.

Over the course of the Jubilee weekend, Manuela collected three full bags of rubbish from locations across Andover, as part of her campaign to keep the town clean and tidy.

The event ran from 2pm to 6pm and was followed by a mammoth clean-up effort by young litter-pickers.

Members of the Ra Football Club gave up their time to make sure no rubbish was left behind.

Coach and councillor, Nicholas Asamoah, told the Advertiser that community engagement is a big part of his team's schedule, and that he has learned from the young people to focus not only on winning but on working together.

He said: "I am very proud. These boys have taught me so many positive life lessons, which I'm grateful for as part of my life development."
